Shanxi mine death toll hits 53

Death toll in a colliery explosion in north China's Shanxi Province rose
to 53 miners, while three remain trapped underground, rescuers said
yesterday.
Rescue headquarters said another miner died from carbonic oxide poisoning
while carrying out rescue operations. Sixty-two miners were working
underground when the blast occurred on Saturday afternoon at the coal
mine in Lingshi County, Jinzhong City, headquarters confirmed.
